Alex Aligizakis
Protools Instructor
Alex started his career working under music producer veterans GGGarth Richardson and Scott Ternan as a runner at the Factory Studios in 1999. From there Alex moved over to the Warehouse Studios where he ran for many high profile clients such as Mike Fraser, Dave “Rave” Ogilvie, and Michael “Elvis” Baskette, and various high profile bands such as R.E.M., Mudvayne, and Soil.
After a few years of being a runner Alex got a gig as a 2nd engineer at the late Bruce Fairbairn’s Armoury Studios. It was an unbelievable experience assisting many great Producers and Engineers such as Randy Staub, Jerry Finn, and Mike Plotnikoff, and working on phenomenal records with bands and artists like Nickelback, Sparta, and Busta Rhymes.
At the Armoury Alex hooked up with the Nickelback camp and ended working on a couple very successful records “Silver Side Up” and “The Long Road”. He then relocated to work exclusively with Nickelback’s Producer/Engineer Joey Moi, up and coming Mega Producer Brian Howes, as well as the infamous Chad Kroeger. As the technical leader and studio facilatator at Kroeger’s own MountainView Studios Alex worked on some great projects with bands like Thornley, Hinder, and Theory of a Deadman. This position with the Nickelback camp also turned into an opportunity to travel with the band on tour as a live ProTools operator. Alex toured as a roadie throughout Europe twice, all of North America numerous times, and even 2 performances on the Jay Leno Show.
This history was a great basis to embark on a career of his own. Alex began pursuing his freelance Production/Engineering/Mixing career sometime roughly in 2005. In 2006 Alex engineered Art of Dying’s self-titled breakout CD with the hit single “Get Through This”. He also worked on many other recordings in various roles from ProTools editor to Engineer with bands like Hedley, Bullet for My Valentine, Strapping Young Lad and his own personal favourite Hail the Villain.
Alex actually co-financed and Engineered Hail the Villain’s debut “Population Declining” (2010) which got them signed to Warner Music in Canada and RoadRunner Records in the United States, as well as getting them nominated for Best Rock Record at the 2010 Juno Awards, and for best Rock Video at the MuchMusic Video Awards. This may be Alex’s greatest achievement to date.
Since then Alex has been Producing, Engineering, and Mixing many independent and signed bands and artists from the local Vancouver scene including Chris Witoski/Split Tract, Will Ripley, and Rude City Riot.
Most recently Alex has worked with local up and comers Panther and the Supafly, and has begun mixing on Bend Sinister’s (Peak Performance Project first place winners in 2009) upcoming 2012 release.
